There is no denying that through history, there have been arists who totally reshaped the world with their craft. There is also no denying, that many of these artists knew just how awesome they were, and they weren't afraid to let other people know.
This has been going on since people started writing down what musicians had to say. We know a lot of the things some of the modern artists like to say, thanks to all of the different forms of media we are exposed to, but I thought it might be fun to travel back in time, and see what some of the old school guys had to say about themselves.
So here is a collection of egoism from some of history's finest. See if you can imagine Yeezy saying the same things. You definitely can.
And yes, these are only the tip of the iceberg.
A man of superior talent (which I cannot deny myself to be without being impious) will go to pieces if he forever remains in the same place. –Mozart
If there is anyone here whom I have not insulted, I beg your pardon. –Brahms
Give me a laundry list, and I’ll set it to music! -Rossini
I have nothing to say, and I am saying it-and that is poetry -John Cage
I don’t write modern music; I only write good music. –Stravinsky
Pay no attention to what critics say; there has never been a statue set up in honor of a critic. -Sibelius
Richard Wagner, a musician who wrote music which is even better than it sounds.
If you understood everything I said, you’d be me. –Miles Davis
“I know what I’ve done for music, but don’t call me “a legend”.(…) A legend is an old man with a cane known for what he used to do. I’m still doing it.” -MIles Davis
Prince, what you are, you are by the accident of birth; what I am, I am of myself. There are, and there will always be a thousand princes. There is only one Beethoven. –Beethoven
Music should strike fire from the heart of man, and bring tears from the eyes of woman. -Beethoven
Again, this is only a fraction of what history's musicians have been saying. More to come!
