Advanced Piano Repertoire. If you have been teaching piano for several years, you likely have your favorite method books which you use for your beginning students: note spellers, theory workbooks, basic repertoire, etc. But, how about repertoire for your more advanced students? Are you (and possibly

even they) becoming bored with the same old songs and styles? If so, then the Neil A. Kjos Music Company has some offerings that might be just the thing. Check out several interesting titles in their line including Palette of Touches, by Joanne Haroutounian, which teaches students how to “color” their playing by creating techniques that define mood, character, and compositional style of a piece via innovative exercises and specialized repertoire. Another title in the series is a new edition of Bürgmuller’s Twelve Brilliant and Melodious Studies, Opus 105 edited by Keith Snell.

Students who have progressed beyond the basics and are ready to try their hand at improvisational playing will be captivated by Bradley Sowash’s keyboard improvisation method titled Creative Chords. This program teaches students how to play well-known melodies by ear, improvise embellishments and add a variety of chords and styles to create their own individual arrangements of these well-loved pieces. Check out these and many other titles at your local dealer or by heading over to www.kjos.com.

Advanced Theft Protection. Whether you play guitar, violin, keyboard, or woodwinds, you know that you have put a lot of money into your instrument. So, why not invest in a high-quality theft protection device like the Tempo AnyCase GPS Tracking Device? Small and lightweight, yet extremely accurate, the device mounts easily inside the case of your instrument, or directly on larger instruments such as keyboards, speakers,or drums.

Furthermore, it is completely camouflaged: buttons and LED are invisible when mounted inside the case, and false label identifies is as a humidity monitoring system to foil would-be thieves.

A free app allows the user to monitor and track the instrument from any android phone, computer, tablet, or iPhone; allows you to see current location, location history, speed, direction, battery level and more. Satellite maps allow you to select between street view, aerial view, and hybrid view. A motion sensor lets you know via text message or email alerts, the instant your case or instrument is moved without your knowledge. Priced at $295, the Tempo AnyCase GPS is a small price to pay to safeguard your valuable instruments and equipment. Available from the Johnson String Instrument Company at www.johnsonstring.com. or directly from the manufacturer at www.tempocases.com.

Advanced Drumming Techniques. Now you can have great sound for your drum circle, even when you are travelling on the road, thanks to these ultra-light, rope-tuned travel djembes from Meinl. Twenty percent lighter than the company’s fiberglass djembes, these drums feature the combination of yellow fiber heads and synthetic shells for easy transport without sacrificing the sharp slaps and deep bass tones that make any drum circle come alive.

Available with choice of an eight, ten, or twelve-inch head; bases are 16, 20, and 24 inches prospectively. All three feature a handy carrying strap which allows you to sling it over your shoulder and go! Pre-stretched nylon ropes hold the tuning, while a non-skid rubber bottom protects the drum bass from scratches. Great whether you’re at home or on the road; weather proof design makes them a great travel partner for outdoor drum circles. Available from your preferred percussion supplier or by contacting the manufacturer at www.meinlpercussion.com.
